Concerts at Circo Massimo, the Olimpico and Capannelle: group shuttles in Rome

Contents

Tickets for Rome’s summer concerts are bought in winter, and anyone bringing a group (a fan club, a company with its clients, an association from out of town) usually thinks about the coach only afterwards. It is better to do the opposite, because in June and July the vehicles for the nights of the big concerts at Circo Massimo and the Stadio Olimpico are booked early.

The three main venues each have different problems: Circo Massimo is right in the historic centre, the Olimpico has the Foro Italico and the Lungotevere riverside roads that close as the crowd leaves, and the Ippodromo delle Capannelle is on the Appia Nuova, near the Raccordo, Rome’s ring road. Here is how we work at each one. The same vehicles cover our bus and coach hire in Rome for all our other services in the city.

Concerts at Circo Massimo: historic centre and closed roads

Circo Massimo lies inside the restricted traffic zones reserved for tour buses, which can only be entered with a permit. Since 1 January 2026 permits can only be bought online. The system of ZTL zones and permits for tour buses also includes dedicated parking areas.

On concert nights the closures start hours before the show. For the concert on 26 June 2025, for example, Roma Capitale closed via dei Cerchi from 17:00, and via del Circo Massimo and piazzale Ugo La Malfa from 20:00, with several bus routes diverted. Each concert has its own traffic order, published a few days beforehand.

In practice the coach does not park near the venue. It drops the group at an agreed point before the closures, moves to an authorised parking area and comes back at the end of the evening to a meeting point outside the closed perimeter. That point must be given to everyone before going in: on the way out, among thousands of people, it is easy to lose sight of your group.

Stadio Olimpico: the Foro Italico on concert nights

At the Olimpico the problem is getting out. On the concert nights of June 2025 Roma Capitale imposed no-parking and no-stopping rules on viale dei Gladiatori, piazza Lauro de Bosis, piazzale della Farnesina, viale Paolo Boselli and other streets, and temporary closures as the crowd left on Lungotevere Diaz, via del Foro Italico and viale Boselli.

Roma Mobilità lists a tour bus parking area called “Olimpico-Farnesina”, but when we checked it was marked as unavailable. Before every date we check the status of the area and the traffic order, and we choose the pick-up point for the return in an area that clears quickly after the show.

For groups of 15-20 people a minibus with driver has more options for stopping in the streets around the Foro Italico. With 50 people you need a Gran Turismo coach, and the meeting point has to be chosen with more care.

Ippodromo delle Capannelle: Rock in Roma and the ring road

The racecourse is at via Appia Nuova 1245, near exit 23 of the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road. For groups coming from the Castelli Romani, from Latina or from the Frosinone area it is the most convenient of the three venues, because you do not cross the centre.

The Rock in Roma organisers publish a page of practical information for each date, with gate opening times and numbered car parks. For Olly’s concert in 2026 the gates opened at 15:30 for a show at 21:45. Anyone who wants a good spot under the stage goes in early, and the coach has to leave accordingly.

The festival also runs its own shuttles from San Lorenzo, San Giovanni and Piramide, designed for individual concertgoers. A group of 40 people leaving from a town in the province, or from a company’s offices, needs its own vehicle to take it back to the same point.

The return after midnight

The real work of a concert service starts when the show ends. We run late-night returns regularly, seven days a week. For a group coming from outside Rome, though, the evening gets long: departure in the early afternoon, waiting, return in the middle of the night.

The rules on driving and rest times apply to concerts too: they set how many hours a driver can drive and, over long distances, may require a second driver.

Choosing between a minibus and a Gran Turismo coach depends on how many of you there are and where you need to stop: the difference between a minibus and a Gran Turismo coach lies in the number of seats and the streets the vehicle can get into.

Companies and guests: dinner, concert, back to the hotel

For a company taking clients or employees to a concert, the evening has several stages: drinks or dinner, the concert, the return to the hotel or home. With a dedicated vehicle the sequence is planned in advance and the driver stays available all evening. It is the same pattern we use for company dinner shuttles in Rome.

For international guests we can provide an English-speaking driver. For groups of more than 100 people, with several coaches, we prepare a plan with pick-up points, times and an operational contact you can reach during the evening, as we do for other events in Rome with hired coaches.

How to request a quote for a concert in Rome

Write to us as soon as you have the tickets, even if the number of participants is still to be confirmed. For services with several vehicles we recommend 2-3 months’ notice. We need:

  • date and venue of the concert;
  • starting point (or several pick-up points) and number of people;
  • the time you want to be at the gates;
  • any stops before or after (dinner, hotel, station);
  • luggage or materials, if any.

The quote is written and includes the driver, fuel, passenger insurance and maintenance; waiting hours beyond those planned have an hourly rate set in advance. In Rome, coach hire prices have different indicative hourly rates for minibuses, midi coaches and Gran Turismo coaches. We reply within a few hours during working hours. Phone: +39 06 4882027. Email: info@toddebus.it (subject line: “Rome Concert”).

When the concert is in Lombardy we work from our Lainate base, with shuttles for concerts at San Siro and the Unipol Forum.

Frequently asked questions

Where can a coach stop for a concert at Circo Massimo?

Not in the streets around the venue, which are closed hours before the show. The group gets off at an agreed point outside the closure perimeter and the vehicle waits in an authorised parking area. The exact point depends on the traffic order published for that concert.

Do you need a permit to drive a coach into the centre of Rome?

Yes. Tour buses entering the dedicated ZTL zones must have a permit, which since 2026 can only be bought online on the Roma Mobilità website. The type of permit depends on the zone.

How do you get to Rock in Roma by coach?

The Ippodromo delle Capannelle is at via Appia Nuova 1245, near exit 23 of the Raccordo ring road. For each date the festival publishes information on gates and car parks: we check it before setting the group’s times.

Does the coach wait until the end of the concert?

Yes, the driver waits for the group and takes it back to the starting point. Waiting hours are shown in the quote, and any extra hours have an hourly rate set in advance.

When should you book a coach for a concert at the Olimpico?

As soon as you have bought the tickets. On the nights of the big summer concerts demand for vehicles is high, and groups needing several coaches should book 2-3 months ahead.
