A GT coach, or Gran Turismo coach, is the vehicle designed for long journeys: reclining seats, individual air conditioning, an underfloor luggage hold and, depending on the model, a minibar, a coffee machine and Wi-Fi. In our fleet the Gran Turismo coaches have 54 to 56 seats and are the vehicles we use for tours, pilgrimages, long-distance school trips and transfers for large groups, starting with coach hire with driver in Rome.
Since September 2025 we have also had an operating base in Lainate, with our own vehicles, all Euro 6, for coach and bus hire in Milan and across Lombardy. Below you will find the technical specifications of each model, the on-board equipment and the criteria for deciding when a Gran Turismo is the right vehicle.
What sets a Gran Turismo coach apart from a bus
You feel the difference after the first hour. A Gran Turismo has wider, reclining seats, footrests and armrests, air conditioning and lighting adjustable from every seat, panoramic windows and a luggage hold beneath the passenger deck that takes the suitcases of a group travelling for several days. On a three or four hour journey these are details the group notices, especially with older people or children.
By comparison, the midi coach with up to 36 seats is the standard vehicle for day trips out of town and has a lower hourly rate. The 16 to 27 seat minibus gets in where a Gran Turismo cannot, and for many groups the choice between minibus and Gran Turismo depends on the route.

As well as the Gran Turismo coaches, our own fleet includes minibuses, midi coaches, vans, cars with driver and electric vehicles.
On-board equipment: what to ask for in the quote
Not all Gran Turismo coaches have the same equipment, so tell us straight away what you need. Wi-Fi and USB sockets matter for a corporate group working during the journey. The microphone is for a guide commenting on the route, or a group leader giving instructions before each stop. A minibar and coffee machine come in handy on tours of several days.
Depending on the vehicle, tables are also available and, on some models, an on-board toilet. If these are essential for you, for example on a long journey with older people, say so in your request: we assign the model according to these needs and to availability on the date.
Emission class, maintenance and safety
More than 50% of our fleet is Euro 6 and the vehicles at our Milan base are all Euro 6. The emission class is not a technical detail: in some cities, access for tour coaches depends partly on it, for example in Rome’s ZTL zones for tour coaches (ZTL stands for Zona a Traffico Limitato, the restricted traffic zone). We are ISO 14001:2015 certified and, on request, we provide emissions data per km, useful for companies doing ESG reporting.
Maintenance is carried out in our own workshop, by our own mechanics, on a scheduled basis. If a vehicle breaks down, we replace it with another from the fleet. All Gran Turismo models have seat belts, an emergency exit and speed control, and on the vehicles used for schools every seat has a seat belt.
When to choose a Gran Turismo coach
A Gran Turismo is the right choice when the group has more than 36 passengers or when the journey lasts more than an hour. We use it for long-distance school trips, pilgrimages, multi-day tours in Italy and abroad, group transfers with luggage and events with many participants. We were also an official supplier to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, with routes between Milan, Cortina, Bormio and Livigno.
It has two limits to keep in mind. The first is size: it cannot get into the narrow lanes of historic centres or along many roads to villas and villages, and there you need a smaller vehicle or a transfer point. The second concerns the driver: on long journeys the driving and rest limits apply, which set how many hours a driver can drive, and sometimes a second driver is needed.
If the group is larger than 56 people, we work with several coordinated vehicles, and the right combination is chosen starting from how many seats each coach has.
How much it costs to hire a Gran Turismo coach
A Gran Turismo costs more than a minibus or a 36-seat midi coach, but split across 50 passengers the cost per person stays modest. In Rome the price depends on the vehicle, the hours and the route: our guide to coach hire prices in Rome explains how it is made up, and the quote is free.
In Milan the cost of a full day depends on the vehicle, the hours and the route, and can rise in the weeks of the major trade fairs: our guide to coach hire costs in Milan explains how it varies. The quote includes the driver, fuel, passenger insurance and maintenance, while tolls, the driver’s overnight accommodation and any extra routes are shown separately.
How to request a quote for a GT coach
For the quote we need the date, departure time, pick-up point and destination, number of passengers, type of service, luggage and planned stops. Add the equipment you need, such as Wi-Fi, toilet or microphone, and for trips of several days the programme with the nights away. In normal periods book 2-3 weeks ahead; for spring trips and services with several vehicles, 2-3 months ahead.
We reply within a few hours during working hours. Phone: +39 06 4882027. Email: info@toddebus.it (for our Milan base, subject line: “Milan”).
Frequently asked questions
How many seats does a GT coach have?
In our fleet, 54 to 56 passenger seats, plus the driver. The Irisbus New Domino and the Irisbus Magelys Pro have 56 seats, the Mercedes Tourismo 54 or 56 depending on the layout.
What is the difference between a GT coach and a Gran Turismo coach?
None: GT is short for Gran Turismo. It refers to coaches built for long journeys, with reclining seats, individual air conditioning and an underfloor luggage hold.
Do Gran Turismo coaches have a toilet?
It depends on the vehicle. Equipment varies from one model to another: air conditioning, power sockets and, on some models, an on-board toilet. If you need one, say so in your quote request and we will check which vehicle is available on your date.
Can a Gran Turismo coach enter a historic centre?
Not always. Vehicle size, narrow streets and access rules for tour coaches limit many routes. In those cases we suggest a minibus or a transfer point, after checking the address.
What Euro class are your GT coaches?
The Irisbus New Domino and the Magelys Pro are Euro 5, the Mercedes Tourismo Euro 5 or Euro 6 depending on the vehicle. More than half of the fleet is Euro 6, and all the vehicles at our Milan base are.
