When a group leaves Milan for a cruise, the embarkation port is often in Liguria: Genoa or Savona. It might be a company on an incentive trip, a parish, an association or an agency gathering clients from all over Lombardy. The transfer from Milan to the port of Genoa or Savona is the part of the trip that needs the most careful planning, because the ship has a boarding time that does not move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From our Lainate base, open since September 2025 with our own vehicles, all Euro 6, we run group transfers to both ports with minibuses<\/a>, buses and Gran Turismo coaches. Here is how the terminals work, how we set the timings and what we need for the quote. The same vehicles cover coach and bus hire in Milan<\/a> and across Lombardy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In Genoa cruise ships use the Stazione Marittima, with two terminals: Ponte dei Mille and Ponte Andrea Doria. The passenger area is close to the city centre and to Genova Piazza Principe station. According to the Port System Authority, from the Genova Ovest motorway exit you follow the signs for “Terminal Crociere, Terminal Traghetti” (cruise terminal, ferry terminal) to the boarding access gate; parking areas for cruise passengers’ coaches and cars have been set aside near the terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In Savona ships berth at the Palacrociere, the terminal run by Costa Crociere. The city is reached from the A6 and A10 motorways, exit Savona. Access to the terminal areas is restricted to people with a boarding ticket, authorised persons and those on the boarding lists, with security checks at the entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The practical difference for a group is the drop-off point. Before the service we coordinate the access details with the port and agree with you where the coach leaves the passengers and luggage. The official information for Savona is on the Palacrociere website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The reference point is the terminal check-in time printed on the travel documents. From there we work backwards: the estimated journey time for that day and that hour, a stop if the group is starting from far away, and a margin for traffic leaving Milan and for loading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Loading and unloading are the part people most often underestimate. Fifty people with two suitcases each do not board a coach in five minutes, and on arrival at the terminal the luggage has to be unloaded and handed over. If the group is starting from several points, for example Milan and Monza, every stop adds time and has to be built into the schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On long journeys the driver’s driving time limits<\/a> also matter, and they affect outward and return transfers on the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A common case is an international group that lands at Malpensa or Linate and boards the same day. Malpensa is about 50 km from Milan, and from there the route to Liguria does not go through the city centre: the coach picks up the group at the airport and takes it straight to the cruise terminal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We monitor flight times: if a flight is delayed, the vehicle waits without you needing to tell us. If the group arrives on different flights, we decide together whether to have everyone wait or run two trips, comparing the cost of the waiting hours with that of a second vehicle. For a group transfer from the Milan airports<\/a> we also take into account each airport’s parking rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On disembarkation day passengers may leave the ship at different times, following the cruise line’s instructions. To avoid keeping a coach standing for hours, we ask the group leader for the expected disembarkation time and a reachable phone number, and we set a gathering point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If part of the group has an early afternoon flight from Malpensa and another part is heading home in the evening, it is worth considering two vehicles of different sizes. In the quote, extra hours have an hourly rate set in advance, so the choice is made on the numbers and not by guesswork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For cruises the number of seats is not enough to choose the vehicle. A group of 40 people with a week’s luggage needs a 54-56 seat Gran Turismo coach with an underfloor luggage hold, even if some seats stay empty. The equipment of a Gran Turismo coach<\/a> varies by model, from individual air conditioning to the on-board facilities available on some vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For groups of 16-27 people a minibus works well if the luggage is limited. With large suitcases we consider a 36-seat bus, which has more hold space.
