The 2027 Rome Marathon will be run on Sunday 14 March, starting at around 08:30 at the Fori Imperiali (the Imperial Forums) and finishing at the Circo Massimo<\/a>. For anyone bringing a team, a tour operator group or a foreign club, the problem is not the race: it is getting to the start area at dawn, with dozens of people, while the historic centre closes to traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have worked in Rome since 1956 and we know this kind of morning. Our coach and bus rental in Rome<\/a> also covers the three days of the marathon, and below we look at how to plan transport for your group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rome Marathon 2027: dates and places to note<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The regulations for the 32nd edition, published by the organisers, set the race for Sunday 14 March 2027 with the start “at around 08:30”. The official website gives the start at the Fori Imperiali and the finish at the Circo Massimo. On Saturday 13 March at 09:00 there is the 5 km Fun Run, on the same Fori Imperiali to Circo Massimo axis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Race bibs are collected in person at the Expo Village. The website gives the Circo Massimo as the venue, but the 2027 regulations say the location and opening times will be announced later. Bib shipping cannot be delegated: every athlete has to go to the Expo. For a group of 40 runners this means one more journey to put in the schedule, usually on the Friday or Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Road closures are published by Roma Capitale (the city authority) and Roma Mobilit\u00e0 in the days before the race. Until they come out, nobody can tell you exactly where a coach will be able to stop on Sunday morning. The plan is built beforehand and fine-tuned once the traffic order is out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunday morning: from the hotel to the start area<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The coach does not reach the Fori Imperiali. The start area is closed and the centre lies within the ZTL zones for tour coaches<\/a> (Zona a Traffico Limitato, the restricted traffic zone), where coaches can only circulate with a permit bought online and park in the designated areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In practice we choose with you a drop-off point outside the closure perimeter, from which the runners walk to their start area. The bib shows the assigned start pen, and the furthest pens take a few more minutes on foot. It is worth factoring this in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A cautious example: if the start is at 08:30 and the athletes want to be in their pen at least 45 minutes before, leaving the hotel at 07:15 is already late. With hotels in different areas (Termini, Prati, EUR) you need different departure times, and sometimes different vehicles. You tell us how much margin the team wants; we tell you how much is needed on the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bag drop is included in the entry fee, so the coach does not have to act as a cloakroom during the race. Many groups, however, leave bags with a change of clothes on board and find everything again back at the hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporters and the finish at the Circo Massimo<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Supporters have a different day from the runners. They want to see the runners pass, then the finish, then find their athlete. Following the race by coach is not possible, because the course is closed. What can be done is to take them to an agreed meeting point and pick them up afterwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the end of the morning we set a meeting point outside the finish area, within walking distance of the Circo Massimo. It helps to set two departure times: one for those who finish earlier, one for the last ones. With a mixed group, a single time leaves half the people unhappy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For small clubs, 10-20 people between athletes and families, a minibus with driver<\/a> moves more easily in the streets around the closed area. For 50 people with luggage, the 54-56 seat Gran Turismo coach<\/a> remains the most practical choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The full weekend: airport, Expo, return<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For foreign groups the marathon is a weekend of three or four days. Thursday and Friday arrivals are handled with a group transfer from Fiumicino and Ciampino<\/a>: we monitor flight times and, if a flight is delayed, the vehicle waits without you needing to tell us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday or Saturday there is bib collection. Many tour operators combine the Expo with a coach tour of Rome<\/a> for the supporters, with stops chosen to fit the programme. On Monday, tired legs and flights home: back to the airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What to book and when<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For a service with several vehicles and coordinated times we recommend writing to us 2-3 months ahead. For the marathon on 14 March, that means moving by December or January, even with provisional numbers. The regulations allow entries as a club or group, and that is often the right moment to secure the transport as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The quote is written and detailed: driver, fuel, passenger insurance and maintenance are included. Extra hours have an hourly rate set in advance, and on a marathon day some extra waiting is possible. Vehicle size, hours of service and waiting time are the main factors in the cost of coach hire in Rome<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
